Unit 1 Choice 2

How do we recognize false teachers?

This is something that hits home for me I grew up out of the church hearing all sorts of variations of the truth, I was being taught interpretations of scripture that I found later were the philosophies of men mingled with scripture but being portrayed as doctrine. Looking back now as an adult and a member of the church I can see clearly that their fruits show that they had it all wrong, but how do we recognize these things when we are born into something or our loving family believes the lies? I feel that like I said their fruits are a great indication of where their hearts are and who they are worshipping, I feel that if they are out for personal gain of any kinds and not glorifying the father, I feel that if they speak ill of the Lord’s anointed and lift themselves up. Mock that which they do not understand but do not care to find the truth or ask the Lord for the truth, making worldly promises they cannot keep and in the end not flowing through. In 2 Peter 2:19 we read, ‘While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.” So much peace and freedom comes from having the truth and having complete confidence in our leaders knowing they do nothing for themselves but for others and to please their heavenly father.

What are the dangers of returning of the “pollutions of the world”?

This is a very scary thing, we must put off the natural man and really admit our weaknesses, we are mortal and are subject to every temptation if we do not turn to the Lord and receive His help we cannot overcome, when we return to the same sin over and over because we are not willing to admit we have a problem then we cannot be changed and cleansed. When we do our best to overcome something we must never forget that we succumbed in the first place so we are vulnerable so we must avoid it at all costs. When you have learned the truth and then turn against it you become more bitter and angry, I heard one of the general authorities say that someone that has left the church and is asked why they spend all their talking about themselves and justifying their actions instead of trying to convince you the doctrine is wrong. I feel this means that part to them still knows it’s true they just can’t admit to that because they would have to admit to knowing what they are doing is wrong.
